Caring for ourselves can feel selfish, but is in fact, the most effective way to care for others. It’s First Aid 101 – secure your own safety before attempting to rescue others. And we all know the adage “put the oxygen mask on yourself first before attempting to assist others.”

In life or death situations, this makes complete sense, and yet we continually forget this in our daily routine lives.

My yoga practice and community of friends are two ways I care for myself. Both keep me sane and grounded (well, mostly sane).

It was through my trusted yoga practice that I was introduced to and opened up to the world of Ayurveda, a holistic sister-science for complete wellness. I’ve found it to be a wonderful complement, allowing me to more fully take my yoga “off the mat.” Ayurveda can teach us great ways find our way back to balance in body and mind, to a natural state of joy, grace, and harmony.

Who doesn’t want more of that?
